State-of-the-art GPS tracking equipment was able to locate and help recover high value survey equipment after a customer site break-in.
A call was made on the morning of Tuesday 22nd June to the hire desk at M&P Survey Equipment after a construction customer discovered an overnight break-in at its Liverpool site. They found that surveying equipment including a Leica TS16 robotic total station, an automatic level, as well as accessories were missing.
All total stations on the M&P hire fleet are fitted with LOC8, a state-of-the-art theft deterrent module and, as soon as the M&P hire desk were informed, they were able to log into their web portal to check the status of the instrument. The theft was also reported to Merseyside Police.
Jonathan Hughes, Hire Co-Ordinator at M&P, was able to quickly locate the stolen total station via its GPS signal which pinpointed a local church yard. The live position was shared with the police and the customer’s security team.
After searching the church yard and surrounding area, the missing TS16 was eventually found on the roof; either hidden or abandoned by the thief. The recovered total station was brought into the M&P Survey workshop in Chester for a thorough check and calibration by the service team. It has now been returned to the customer.
The customer was impressed by the speedy response and recovery, saying:
“I cannot fault the service from M&P Survey following the theft of the total station and auto level. I rang and spoke to Jonathan, who located the equipment within minutes. Using the GPS tracker, we notified the police of its location. The speed at which the equipment was located and recovered was impressive.”
