Technical specialists from M&P Survey Equipment and Leica Geosystems headed to the Isle of Anglesey last week to collaborate on a two-day event hosted at Coleg Menai’s Llangefni campus.
The purpose of the event was to showcase the growing importance of technology in construction and shine a light on the fantastic new training facilities at the Centre for Infrastructure, Skills and Technology (CIST).
The collaborative event also celebrated the beginning of a new partnership between Busnes@LlandrilloMenai and M&P Survey and Leica Geosystems, and the UK product launch of the new DSX utility detection solution.
The first day of the event was for the students at Coleg Menai to learn about the technology that is transforming construction processes, which they could be using after they complete their courses. The second day was targeted at local companies in construction and related industries.
Product experts from M&P and Leica led educational sessions with groups of students on their area of expertise. Making good use of the state-of-the-art training zones, the specialists demonstrated the typical applications of Leica Geosystems GPS, TPS, utility detection, machine control and reality capture technology. The Coleg Menai students even got the chance to get involved and get a hands-on introduction to the instruments.
Plenty of visitors from local construction companies attended the drop-in industry day to see the Leica Geosystems equipment in action and chat with the experts. Dr Paul Bevan, Executive Director at Busnes@LlandrilloMenai welcomed guests to the CIST facilities and spoke highly of the new partnership with M&P and Leica. Mark Bodger, Strategic Partnerships Director for Wales at CITB, presented to a full room, outlining how digital technology can help the construction industry to meet the productivity gap that will open up in the future.
Visitors took the opportunity to get one-on-one demonstrations with products across the spectrum as well a first look at the brand new DSX in action in the utility detection zone.
Richard Lunt, Sales and Operations Director at M&P said: “The quality and commitment in the new facilities in Llangefni make them an ideal setting for specialist training with modern construction technology in North Wales.
“As part of Hexagon, M&P Survey & Leica Geosystems are looking forward to starting our Technology partnership with CIST by supporting this launch event.”
Dr Paul Bevan, Executive Director – Commercial Development at Busnes@LlandrilloMenai said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event with Leica Geosystems and M&P Survey Equipment. This is just one of a series of CIST industry events that showcase the strong partnerships and excellent facilities here in Llangefni.
“We are looking forward to working closely with Leica and M&P in the future as one of CIST’s partners delivering specialist, industry-specific training in here in North Wales.”
