On Wednesday 6th March, a day packed full of smart security solutions is set to be hosted at the Chester offices of M&P Survey Equipment. The leading survey equipment specialists, who are based near Cheshire Oaks, are inviting anyone looking to learn more about the services and features Leica Geosystems offer their customers to ensure the security of their Total Stations.
Four hour-long sessions beginning at 10:15am, 12:00pm, 1:45pm and 3:30pm will introduce attendees to the Captivate Pin Lock, mySecurity cloud service, LOC8 security module, Trackimo mobile app and other theft deterrents for your peace of mind. Not only will product experts explain how everything works, there will also be the chance to see these features in action.
The product experts leading the sessions will be Paul Birtles, Segment Manager for Geomatics at M&P Survey, and Chris Gibbons, Sales Manager for the North West at Leica Geosystems.
The new LOC8 product from Leica is a focus for the Smart Security Day. The theft deterrence module has several impressive functions which put the user in complete control of the security of their equipment. Features such as remote locking, geo-fencing, motion alarms and GPS travel history are all accessible through a mobile app or web interface provided by Trackimo.
We wanted to know whether the security of valuable equipment was something business owners worry about so we started a Twitter poll. The final results suggest that it definitely is, with 88% of respondents indicating that equipment theft is a big concern for their company.

Leica are keen to apply new technologies to crack down on instances of theft. They hope this will eventually diminish the market for stolen equipment.
Chris Gibbons said: “Leica Geosystems are working hard to break the demand for stolen equipment. Fitting a LOC8 device is just one step that can help. Join us at M&P to see the LOC8 in action and also learn what other actions can be undertaken to reduce thefts.”
Paul Birtles added: “In light of serious thefts of construction and geomatics tools including survey equipment over the past few years, Lecia Geosystems have been developing additional security solutions which enhance the already available solutions of PIN/PUK, MyWorld Security and Captivate alarm and the newly developed Loc8 system. With this and additional visible deterrents available, we make the equipment undesirable to steal and difficult to sell on, thus, we can take away the demand”.
